On Sunday, March 3rd, 2002, we held an awards dinner at the Taqueria in Porter. 11 people showed up to enjoy a celebration meal, and to recieve thier awards. The attendees were (counter-clockwise around the table): Ethan Danahy, Tom Kotwal, Brendon Lewis, Phil Lau, Pete Loeb, Greg Wong, Heather Rosoff, Adam B, Dana B, Dave S, and Ash Weaver.
Good time was had by all, and the 4 winners who hit 30 in 30 (Ethan, Ash, Dana & Pete) all recieved their free meal at the Taqueria co-sponsered by BastaBien and Pete Loeb. In addition to the meal, certificates were given out to the participants signifying not only thier participation in the event, but also which catagory they won. An example certificate (word format) can be downloaded here.
Awards:
Dave S - Although he should have gotten the Close But No Burrito Award, I didn't know at the time that he had missed the 30 by only a couple. I had assumed he had made it, and instead he won the Do Tacos Count? Award, as he was the only one to count Tacos as a separate meal. (In all fairness, he was also the only one to eat any Tacos.)
Heather Rosoff - It was never finalized how many meals Heather finally ended up having over the last month. Which award did she win? The Can't Use the Form Award. Why? Refer to the results page.
Ian Klein - Ian recieves the Fewest Burritos Award, because although there were others who posted zero, I don't think Ian actually ended up going to Anna's during this past month.
Anna Meyer - Perhaps she would have won the Name Most Similar to the Restaurant Award had either she married someone with the last name Taqueria, or if actually there was that catagory. Instead, she comes away with the Female Division Winner Award, in a close contest winning by one meal (with a total of 3).
Martin Hsia - Never having refried beans in his burrito before the contest, every one he ate during the contest contained them, so Martin wins the Refried Convert Award.
Jim Comeau - Supposedly Jim ate there over 20 times, but entered none of them, so he wins the Most Unentered Award. He claims the form didn't work (which I tested, and it did), so perhaps he was competing with Heather for the Can't Use the Form Award or with Dave for the Worst Excuses Award.
Ash Weaver - Starting a week late, and still finishing before anyone else, Ash definitely wins the Catch-up & Win Award. Doubling almost everytime, that's mighty impressive!
P.H. - Quite simply, PH wins the Biggest Prick Award. Boo on you, sir.
Stephen Kaye - Steve (and Ethan) made an event out of eating at the Taqueria, by combining it with playing pool and going to the Burren. They called it the Davis Square Triple, and so Steve wins the DST Award.
Ethan Danahy - Eating the exact same thing almost every time, Ethan wins the Consistency Award.
Phil Lau - Due to his love of the burrito loaded with every single ingrediant, Phil wins the Everything Burrito Award.
Adam B - Adam came to the awards ceremony, and so he wins an award too. We all discussed what the catagory should be, and Adam wins the I Was on a Diet Award. Hopefully next time he (and mini-me) can participate.
Tom Kotwal - Before I found out that Dave didn't finish 30, Tom was the only person to break into double digits, yet not hit thirty, so he wins the Broke 10 & Didn't Win Award.
Dana B - Dana's daily routine during his 45 minute lunch break involved driving 20 minutes through Boston, grabing some Taqueria, quickly eating in, and then driving back to work. This dedication wins him the Largest Distance Traveled Award
Pete Loeb - Although others achieved eating at the Taqueria three times in a single day (Dana, Tom, ...), Pete did it more than anyone else, earning him the Triple Award.
Brendon Lewis - Brendon wins the Back of the Pack Competitive Award as he was in a heated battle with Phil over who had 5 or who had 6...
Greg Wong - Vowing to NOT eat Taqueria for 30 days, and then coming back for a couple meals wins, Greg the Can't Stay Away Award. Of note, he is the only one to consume regular burritos.
Paul Lefkowitz - Paul wins the Wrong Restaurant Award because he went to Nick's Roast Beef all this month. Whoops.
Dave Logiudice - I'm sure he'll have some reason he shouldn't, but Dave wins the Worst Excuses Award, as he had a bunch of reasons why he hadn't logged any (didn't have reciets, there was construction, etc.). Actually, perhaps he should get the Best Excuses Award as many were pretty creative...
